Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu Doubts Otto Addo’s Ability to Lead Black Stars at 2026 World Cup
Former Majority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has questioned whether Otto Addo has what it takes to guide the Black Stars at the 2026 FIFA World Cup—if Ghana qualifies.
The Black Stars currently top Group I in the qualifiers, holding a three-point lead with just two games left. Despite the promising results, the team’s performances have left many unimpressed, with critics pointing to a lack of consistency under Addo’s leadership.
Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu didn’t hold back in his assessment. “I’m sure Ghana is going to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, but Otto Addo is not a coach who can lead us to the tournament,” he said.

He acknowledged Mali as Ghana’s toughest competitor in the group but noted that their slow start to the campaign has likely cost them a spot. “Mali is the strongest team in our group, but unfortunately, they didn’t start well. It’s too late for them now. As for Madagascar, who are trailing with 16 points, I don’t see them winning their two remaining games.”
Ghana’s recent win over Mali has brought them within touching distance of qualification. They now need just one more victory to seal their place at the World Cup.
The Black Stars face the Central African Republic away next, followed by a crucial home match against Comoros in October to wrap up their qualification campaign.
