Ghana’s head coach, Otto Addo, has commended midfielder Kwasi Sibo for his remarkable debut as the Black Stars narrowly defeated Mali 1-0 in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Monday night.
The 25-year-old Real Oviedo player, who received a late call-up for this crucial Matchday 8 fixture, partnered with Thomas Partey in central midfield at the Accra Sports Stadium and completed the full 90 minutes.
“First of all, big congratulations to him. I believe he performed exceptionally well,” Addo remarked after the match.
“It is challenging to transition from a different environment and integrate into the squad, but he is familiar with many players in the team and connected very well. He exudes confidence, and I think he performed admirably. This was his inaugural performance.”
Addo characterized Sibo as “a warrior” and anticipated that he would continue to improve as he acclimates to the team, while emphasizing that club performance will be crucial for future selections.
“He is a warrior. You could observe it throughout the match. Looking ahead, things will only get better, but like all players, his performance at the club level will influence his next call-up. The next window is approaching quickly, and I am confident he will be included in the squad,” he added.
Sibo, who played a significant role in assisting Oviedo to achieve promotion to La Liga last season, has maintained his excellent form in Spain’s top division, earning a well-deserved debut on the international stage.
