The final funeral rites for Dr Edward Omane Boamah, who served as the Minister for Defence and as the Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), are scheduled to occur on Saturday, December 13, 2025.
A public announcement issued by the Presidency has confirmed that the ceremony will commence at 12:00 noon at Jackson’s Park in Koforidua. Family members, government officials, party executives, and the general public are anticipated to gather to pay their respects to the late statesman.
Dr Omane Boamah tragically lost his life in a military helicopter crash on August 6, 2025, which resulted in the deaths of all eight individuals aboard.
The tragic incident involved a Harbin Z-9EH military helicopter (tail number GHF 631) that was operated by the Ghana Air Force.
The crash led to the fatalities of several high-ranking government officials and military personnel, including Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence; Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister for Environment, Science and Technology; Muniru Mohammed Limuna, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Samuel Sarpong, NDC Vice-Chair; Samuel Aboagye, former parliamentary candidate; Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala; Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu; and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
