Postecoglou: “I Saw the Sack Coming at Spurs” as He Takes Over at Nottingham Forest
Newly appointed Nottingham Forest manager, Ange Postecoglou, has admitted he wasn’t surprised by his sacking from Tottenham Hotspur, saying he had a feeling it was coming.
Speaking at his first press conference since joining Forest under Greek owner Evangelos Marinakis, the Australian coach reflected on his time at Spurs and his unexpected exit—despite ending the club’s 17-year trophy drought by winning the Europa League.
“These things don’t always come as a shock. Sometimes you just know,” Postecoglou said when asked about his departure from Spurs.
Postecoglou takes over from Nuno Espírito Santo, whose exit followed public remarks suggesting a strained relationship with Marinakis and apparent frustrations with Sporting Director Edu, particularly over delays in player signings that hampered team cohesion.
Despite his European success with Spurs, Postecoglou was shown the door—something he seems to have made peace with as he begins a new chapter at Forest.
“I’m proud of what we achieved at Tottenham, but now I’m focused on building something meaningful here,” he added.
Forest fans will be watching closely as Postecoglou looks to bring stability and ambition to the club in what’s expected to be a pivotal season.
“It wasn’t great. I knew it was coming. I knew it was coming a fair way before the Europa League final. We won it and we had the parade. It was a great three days. Whether I feel it was unjust, other people make those decisions.”

“That’s up to them, you’ll have to ask their reasoning for it. How it ended I don’t really think about a lot. It’s allowed me to move into this and maybe these things happen for a reason” Postecoglou said as quoted by the BBC.

Ange Postecoglou has had his first training session with Nottingham Forest ahead of the team’s league clash against Arsenal on Saturday, September 13 at 11:30 GMT.
