The Ministry of the Interior has declared a new curfew for Nalerigu Township and its neighboring regions in the North-East Region, which will take effect on Monday, January 5, 2026.
In a statement released on Monday, January 5, 2026, the Ministry indicated that the revised curfew hours, from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., were established based on the recommendations of the National Security Council via an Executive Instrument.
Furthermore, the statement specified that a complete prohibition has been placed on the possession of firearms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons within Nalerigu Township and its surroundings. Individuals found to be in breach of this regulation will face arrest and prosecution.
The ministry also urged chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, youth, and residents to practice restraint during these challenging times and to direct their efforts through peaceful means to maintain tranquility in the region.
“The government encourages Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, Youth, and the local populace to remain calm in light of the difficulties they are facing, and to utilize non-violent methods to focus their efforts on fostering peace in the area,” the statement concluded.
