President John Dramani Mahama has declared that the government will officially initiate the Free Primary Health Care Programme on April 15, 2026.
This initiative is designed to eliminate financial barriers to basic healthcare, expand access at the community level, and promote preventive health services nationwide.
During a meeting on Monday, March 30, with civil society organizations at the Jubilee House in Accra, President Mahama highlighted the vital role of CSOs in ensuring the programme’s success.
“I rely on CSOs to aid in public education, help us monitor the implementation, and provide feedback to guarantee that this programme has a meaningful impact,” he stated.
The government anticipates that the programme will significantly enhance access to essential health services, particularly for vulnerable groups, and improve overall health outcomes nationwide.
