President John Dramani Mahama has vehemently denounced the recent assaults on educators in various regions of the country, voicing his concerns regarding the management of a case involving the attack on a teacher by students from Kade Senior High School.
The incident, which came to light online in October 2025, depicted students allegedly assaulting the teacher after he denied them the opportunity to cheat during examinations. Reports suggest that the students’ parents reached an out-of-court settlement following a police report concerning the incident.
While addressing the Delegates Conference of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), the President expressed his dismay that the students had not undergone any formal disciplinary measures.
“Indeed, I viewed the video of the Maths teacher being assaulted for refusing to permit our students to cheat, and they exhibited a sense of entitlement.
The unfortunate aspect is that the issue was reported to the police, and the parents of the students approached the police, claiming they had resolved the matter amicably.
“How can that be? This constitutes assault. It is a criminal act. However, upon our inquiry, the police indicated that the teacher had received compensation, leading him to decide against pressing charges. At the very least, the children should have been formally charged, subjected to the legal process, and ideally, they should have been required to demonstrate good behavior for a specified duration, thereby ensuring that justice is served. As for the assault on teachers, I stand with you 100%, and we will address this issue,” he remarked.
