Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, the former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has submitted his nomination to participate in the party’s forthcoming presidential primary, which is set for Saturday, January 31, 2026.
Agyepong is the first candidate to file for this race, as the party prepares to select its next presidential candidate in anticipation of the 2028 general elections.
His nomination occurs at a moment when the NPP has broadened its voter register to incorporate more party stakeholders.
The Presidential Elections Committee, in a statement released on Tuesday, August 26, revealed new categories of eligible delegates, which include former executives, ministers, MPs, MMDCEs, TESCON leaders, and officials from external branches — all of whom will have a role in determining the party’s next flagbearer.
The registration process for these additional delegates will conclude on Friday, September 19, 2025. This extensive update to the delegate roster is designed to enhance inclusivity and ensure a more representative voting base for the significant internal election.
