The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has encouraged the Black Stars to focus on reaching the final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, should they qualify.
Ghana enhanced their prospects of securing a spot in next year’s tournament with a narrow 1-0 victory over Mali at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday, following a 1-1 draw against Chad the previous week.
This win propelled the four-time African champions to 19 points at the top of Group I, bringing them closer to their fifth World Cup appearance.
Reflecting on Ghana’s remarkable quarterfinal achievement at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, Adams stated that the current team possesses the talent to exceed that milestone.
“The Black Stars must strive to compete in the final of the 2026 World Cup if the team qualifies,” the Buem MP remarked during an interview with Woezor TV.
“We should aim to surpass the performance we delivered in South Africa. The President [John Mahama] has fostered goodwill in the country, and I firmly believe that we have the finest players to create that history,” he further added.
The Black Stars are set to face the Central African Republic in their next qualifying match before concluding their campaign at home against Comoros in October.
