Rapper King Paluta has acknowledged accepting funds from Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s candidate for the December 2024 general elections.
This revelation comes in the wake of criticism he faced for his recent remarks on Twitter, where he suggested that influencers are being compensated to endorse specific artists.
In his Twitter post, King Paluta expressed his dismay over a fan who had previously championed him for the Artiste of the Year (AOTY) award but had recently changed their opinion.
His tweet suggested that certain Twitter influencers were being financially incentivized to favor particular artists over others.
“I noticed a guy who was a strong supporter of mine. Just last week, he was all about Paluta for AOTY. But yesterday, I checked, and he said I no longer deserve the award. Are all the Twitter influencers on the payroll now? Lol, Ghana Music, wake up!” King Paluta wrote in Pidgin.
However, social media users quickly criticized him, pointing out that he had engaged in similar practices during the 2024 elections.
One user responded to Paluta, stating, “You accepted significant money from politicians during the election period, and now you’re complaining about influencers being paid to support others? You should realize that this is how it operates. You pay, and you receive service. It’s that simple.”
In reply, King Paluta confirmed that he had indeed received money from Bawumia, remarking, “The money I took from Baweezy really hurt the boys.”
His admission has reignited discussions regarding his substantial financial ties to the Bawumia-led NPP campaign. During the 2024 elections, he was seen alongside the then-candidate Dr. Bawumia, sharing the stage with party officials at various rallies.
While King Paluta has not revealed the specific amount he received, his acknowledgment has sparked a debate about the role of musicians in political endorsements.
