The Junior Doctors’ Association of Ghana (JDA-GH) has announced a nationwide suspension of services beginning Tuesday, October 7, 2025, in protest against salary delays, suspended postings, and perceived unfair treatment of its members.
A statement released on October 2, 2025, by President Dr. Louisa Afia Nkrumah and General Secretary Dr. Rhoda Wun-nam Amadu reported that more than 200 junior doctors have been working for 10 to 14 months without receiving their salaries.
Additionally, the salaries of some medical officers previously on the government payroll have been suspended without explanation.
The Association further revealed that over 800 medical officers have awaited postings for 16 months, despite repeated engagement with relevant authorities.
The statement emphasized that, despite efforts to cooperate with the government, no solutions have been offered. It declared that continued exploitation of junior doctors would not be tolerated.
According to the Association’s directive, outpatient services will be suspended from Tuesday, October 7, to Thursday, October 9.
Emergency services will be halted starting Friday, October 10, and will remain suspended until further notice. Inpatients admitted before this date will continue to receive care until discharge, but admissions of new patients will cease from October 10 onward.
The JDA holds the Ministry of Health and the Government of Ghana fully accountable for the disruption of healthcare services, calling for prompt action from stakeholders to address the crisis.
