The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has successfully repatriated 925 undocumented migrants following a recent operation conducted in Accra.
The repatriation process commenced on Saturday, May 17, 2025, after a successful operation on Friday, May 16, 2025, which resulted in the apprehension of these migrants, the majority of whom were involved in street begging.
According to a statement from GIS, 819 individuals from Niger and 106 from Nigeria have been returned to their respective countries.
The statement indicated, ‘Repatriation was initiated on the morning of Saturday, May 17, 2025. As of this release, 925 individuals have been successfully repatriated, and efforts are ongoing to address the remaining cases.’
The Service clarified that all migrants underwent profiling and security checks by Standard Operating Procedures.
Additionally, GIS has announced that they are continuing efforts to repatriate the remaining undocumented migrants apprehended during the operation.
While in custody, GIS has assured that the migrants are receiving meals, and medical services are available as needed.
