Inspector General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno has reassigned 84 senior police officers across the country, with many transferred from Police Headquarters to various outstations and vice versa.
Notably, Superintendent Emmanuel Eric Gyebi has been assigned to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters, while Superintendent George Lysander Asare is now with the Judicial Protection Unit.
Both officers were implicated in a controversial leaked recording that detailed a plan to oust former IGP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare. They later testified before a parliamentary committee investigating the matter, answering questions about their professionalism and adherence to Police Service regulations. The committee ultimately recommended disciplinary measures against them.
Within the Police Service, some reports suggest that the transfers of Gyebi and Asare are being seen by certain individuals as promotions rather than disciplinary actions, raising concerns about the potential implications of these decisions.
In related news, COP George Alex Mensah, who played a significant role in the controversy, has since retired from the Police Service.
