The Health Facilities Regulatory Agency (HeFRA) has mandated the immediate shutdown of the Tamale Technical University Hospital due to significant safety and infection prevention issues.
In a statement issued on Monday, November 10, HeFRA indicated that intelligence reports, supported by video and photographic documentation, disclosed that healthcare services at the facility were being delivered in unsafe and unsanitary conditions.
A subsequent inspection conducted by the Agency’s Compliance and Enforcement Directorate on Monday, November 3, 2025, validated the reports and additionally discovered that the hospital had been functioning with an expired license, contravening the Health Institutions and Facilities Act, 2011 (Act 829).
HeFRA has instructed that the hospital remain closed from Friday, November 7, 2025, until all identified safety deficiencies and infection control problems are addressed.
The facility has also been penalized with a fine of GHS35,000 and has been directed to regularize its licensing status prior to resuming operations.
