Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has called upon the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to ensure the timely release of the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results in order to alleviate anxiety among students and the general public.
He made this appeal during the 2025 West African Examination Council Distinction Awards Ceremony held on Thursday, June 26.
While praising WAEC and the Ghana Education Service (GES) for their successful administration of the examinations, the minister emphasized the significance of prompt results.
“I would like to commend you for a highly successful BECE examination. What we now expect from you is the early and timely release of the results so that the anxiety and apprehension among the students can be diminished,” he stated.
Haruna Iddrisu also revealed the government’s plan to introduce a new legislative framework aimed at regulating the awarding of scholarships in the nation.
“In the coming weeks, I will present the Ghana Scholarship Authority Bill to Parliament on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, as he pledged to Ghanaians to address the issue of nepotism that has been linked to the awarding of scholarships,” he shared.
He additionally urged the Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Education, Peter Nortsu Kotoe, to lend his support to the bill when it is brought before the House.
