The Government of Ghana has declared a GHC1 billion Bawku Revitalisation Fund aimed at facilitating post-conflict reconstruction and development in the Bawku region of the Upper East Region.
This initiative comes in the wake of the approval of the Bawku Conflict Mediation Report, which was presented by His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene.
The announcement was made in a statement issued by the Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, on Wednesday, December 17, 2025.
The fund, which will be allocated over a three-year period from 2026 to 2028, is intended to focus on essential infrastructure and socio-economic recovery projects. These projects will encompass roads, healthcare and educational facilities, irrigation, and dam initiatives to promote year-round agriculture, security installations, and economic and commercial developments.
President John Dramani Mahama has instructed that the fund be overseen by a high-level committee led by the Finance Minister, Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, with members including the Upper East Regional Minister, Donaltus Akamuguri, and the Majority Leader and Bawku Central MP, Mahama Ayariga.
The government has stated that this initiative seeks to restore Bawku to its former status as a vital economic and trading center while promoting peace, reconciliation, and sustainable development within the region.
