The Ghana Education Service (GES) has published the harmonised prospectus for Senior High Schools and Technical Institutions for the year 2025 nationwide.
Known as the National Prospectus, it is designed for all incoming first-year students and delineates a standardized set of requirements.
Schools are mandated to strictly follow this established list and are not permitted to request any additional items beyond what has been officially sanctioned.
This initiative is anticipated to alleviate the burden on parents, enabling them to prepare in advance without having to wait for the implementation of the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) before acquiring items for their children.
The prospectus is categorized into three sections.
Category A comprises 27 essential items, including a trunk or hard-body suitcase, a chop box or plastic container, toiletries, bedding, a pair of school-specific footwear, underwear, cutlery, and vital academic tools such as a mathematical set and a scientific calculator.
Category B pertains to cleaning supplies, which are divided into three sub-groups. Students in the first group must provide items such as hard hand gloves, five litres of liquid soap, and one kilogram of washing powder.
Students in the second group are required to bring a small-sized bleach, a dustpan, a long-handled broom, and a scrubbing brush, while those in the third group must supply a standing mop with a mop bucket, a duster, and a short local broom.
For day students, Category A necessitates that they possess a mathematical set, a scientific calculator, appropriate school-specific sandals without decorations, black or white sneakers, and a school bag.
The cleaning materials outlined in Category B are also applicable to day students across the three sub-groups.
The GES has underscored that the uniform prospectus aims to diminish disparities, promote equity among schools, and alleviate the financial and logistical pressures on parents.
