The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources announced that approximately 50 large-scale mining companies may have their licences revoked in the near future as part of an ongoing licence review.
This announcement came during a press briefing on Tuesday, December 23, 2025. The Ministry’s Director of Public Relations, Mawusi Ama Mawuenyefia, delivered the statement.
She stated that the Ministry has been conducting a thorough review of mining licences for both small- and large-scale operations to address any regulatory violations.
She explained, “We had also indicated that we were reviewing the small-scale licences regime. We began this process, and about 906 were initially at risk of revocation. After a careful review to correct discrepancies, 258 small-scale licences were revoked.”
Madam Ama Mawuenyefia mentioned that this review process has now been expanded to include large-scale mining companies.
“Currently, we have 50 large-scale mining licences that are at risk of revocation,” she noted.
She emphasized that the companies affected will be provided with a one-month period to regularize their operations.
“If your company’s name appears on that list, you have one month to correct or address the issues, provided you have a valid reason for why your licence should not be revoked,” she stated.
The Ministry highlighted that this initiative is part of the government’s efforts to enhance regulatory compliance within the mining sector and to ensure that all operations strictly adhere to established standards.
