Eugene Boakye Antwi, the former Member of Parliament for Subin, has called upon all aspirants, supporters, and members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to behave in a respectable manner in anticipation of the flagbearer elections.
The NPP is scheduled to hold its elections on Saturday, January 31, to select a flagbearer for the upcoming 2028 general elections.
In a video message directed at the members of the NPP, Mr. Boakye Antwi, who is a hopeful candidate for the position of General Secretary within the NPP, encouraged both supporters and aspirants to engage in a campaign that is free from insults, insinuations, and divisions.
“I would like to respectfully implore all aspirants, delegates, and supporters to conduct ourselves with decency, decorum, discipline, and due respect. In the days ahead, our campaign should focus on ideas, vision, and records, rather than insults, insinuations, or divisions. Our party’s strength has always been in our ability to compete vigorously while remaining united,” he stated.
Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has similarly urged all flagbearer aspirants of the New Patriotic Party to emphasize unity following the elections on January 31.
He remarked that unity is not merely optional but essential for achieving victory. During the Peace Pact signing event involving the five NPP aspirants on Thursday, January 22, 2026, he stated, “The ideology of the NPP continues to resonate with Ghanaians. The NPP transcends any individual… unity is not a choice; it is a strategic necessity for victory.”
He further added, “The ideology of the New Patriotic Party remains profoundly appealing to the majority of Ghanaians.”
In addition, Former Speaker of Parliament Professor Mike Aaron Oquaye has called for fairness in the process of electing a flagbearer for the New Patriotic Party.
He urged all aspirants to uphold the party’s values throughout this process.
Mr. Oquaye stressed the importance of fairness, unity, and respect for the party’s values during the electoral process. “Please act honorably for the New Patriotic Party and our tradition,” he urged.
“I urge you to take honorable action for the New Patriotic Party and our traditions,” he stated.
He further emphasized the importance of signing the peace pact, noting that previous instances of unfair practices, bias, and extreme partisanship within the party have adversely impacted unity.
“In making this statement, I acknowledge that unfair practices, bias, and low-level partisanship have occurred within our party, which have either destroyed or undermined our unity,” he continued.
