The Ghana Police Service has denied allegations that evidence in a current narcotics case in the Eastern Region has gone missing, affirming that all 36 sacks of materials believed to be Indian hemp are still secure.
In an official statement, the Police Administration called on the public to ignore what it termed as misleading media reports suggesting that the confiscated sacks had disintegrated into sawdust. Authorities confirmed that both the seized vehicle and the evidence remain under the control of the Eastern Regional Command.
This case pertains to a Kia truck with the registration number ER-760-23, which was apprehended on the Sekesua road on September 30, 2025. Officers from the Eastern Regional Police Headquarters in Koforidua detained the driver after it was found that, alongside sawdust, the truck was transporting 36 sacks of dried materials suspected to be narcotics.
The vehicle was later taken to the Sekesua Police Station; however, the driver and his accomplice managed to flee, leaving the truck behind. The police have stated that efforts to recapture the suspects have been escalated.
In the meantime, the Police Professional Standards Bureau has initiated an investigation into the incident as part of ongoing measures to ensure accountability in the management of the case.
