District assembly and unit committee by-elections are postponed by the EC

The Electoral Commission (EC) has declared the postponement of all District Assembly and Unit Committee by-elections until further notice.

In a notice dated November 3, 2025, the Commission informed the public that the planned by-elections have been suspended, stating that new dates will be announced in due time.

The announcement, which was signed by Mr Fred Tetteh, Deputy Director of the EC’s Research, Monitoring and Evaluation Department, did not provide a reason for the postponement.

The Commission reassured the public that additional updates will be shared once arrangements are finalized.

The District Assembly and Unit Committee by-elections were originally set to occur nationwide on Tuesday, November 11, 2025.

These elections were intended to fill vacancies resulting from the resignation or death of Assembly Members and Unit Committee Members, in accordance with the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), as amended by Act 940.

Regions and Districts Involved;

The by-elections will encompass over 1,500 polling stations across various regions, including Greater Accra, Ashanti, Volta, Central, Eastern, Bono, Ahafo, Western, Western North, and others.

Some of the prominent districts and communities where elections will be held include:

* Greater Accra: Ablekuma Central, Weija-Gbawe, La-Nkwantanang, and Adenta
* Central Region: Cape Coast, Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abirem, and Mfantseman
* Western Region: Jomoro, Ellembelle, Nzema East, and Sekondi-Takoradi
* Eastern Region: Asuogyaman, Yilo Krobo, Suhum, and New Juaben
* Ashanti Region: Adansi South, Obuasi Municipal, Bosomtwe, and Offinso North
* Volta Region: Keta, Ketu South, Ho, and Afadjato South

The Commission has provided a list of all vacant Electoral Areas and Units along with the corresponding number of polling stations, which is accessible at district offices and online.
