The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, has urged political figures to pledge their commitment to accepting election results as a strategy for maintaining peace and averting violence.
In his keynote address at the 2025 Democracy Dialogue on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, Mr. Debrah emphasized that the political stability of Africa relies on electoral processes that are both transparent and credible.
“When political figures reject election outcomes or provoke violence, they transform healthy competition into a perilous confrontation,” he warned.
He referenced instances throughout the continent where unconstitutional attempts for third terms, contested elections, and military interventions have compromised democratic achievements and led nations into turmoil.
“These serve as ongoing reminders of how our democratic progress can be diminished,” he stated, calling on stakeholders to honor the rule of law and uphold democratic values.
