The funeral of the renowned Ghanaian artist, Daddy Lumba, is scheduled to take place tomorrow, Saturday, December 13, following the failure of the applicants involved in the ongoing family dispute to secure the GH₵2 million mandated by the Accra High Court.
The court had determined that a failure to make this payment would permit the release of the body for burial.
Representatives from Transitions Funeral Home have stated that they are awaiting the certified court order to move forward with the funeral arrangements.
This ruling comes after a previous injunction that had temporarily barred the family head from organizing the funeral and prevented the funeral home from releasing the deceased musician’s body. The applicants’ legal team characterized the new order as “practically impossible,” contending that the court lacked the authority to modify its initial directives without prior notice. They suggested signing an agreement to pay the amount at a later date and cautioned that this abrupt change could mislead the public.
Conversely, the respondents argued that the GH₵2 million was inadequate considering the expenses already incurred for dignitaries, contractors, and funeral preparations. They requested the court to increase the amount to over GH₵5 million and insisted that the burial should proceed if the maternal family did not comply.
The Accra High Court clarified that this directive does not impact the Daddy Lumba LBG Foundation or the second respondent. However, it emphasized that failure to pay would necessitate Transitions Funeral Home to release the body, thereby allowing the funeral to occur while financial issues are resolved.
Preparations are now anticipated to proceed for tomorrow’s funeral, signifying a pivotal moment in the protracted saga surrounding the burial of the late musician.
