Peace is slowly being restored to Kwahu following the implementation of a decision by the Judicial Committee of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs, which reinstated Daasebre Akuamoah Agyepong II to the Esono Gyimah Mampong Agyei Palace at Abene.
Daasebre Akuamoah Agyepong II has pledged to the people of Kwahu that he will promote unity and prioritize peace and development within the traditional area.
The palace had been unlawfully taken over since late 2024 by armed individuals and was occupied by Baffuor Akoto Osei, who was presented as Kwahuhene from January 2025, following an alleged destoolment of the legitimate chief.
Daasebre Akuamoah Agyepong II, whose birth name is Eugene Kwasi Asante Boadi, is a chartered accountant who was lawfully nominated, selected, and enstooled as Kwahuhene on June 5, 2017, after the passing of Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng II on September 9, 2014. His name was officially recorded in the National Register of Chiefs and published in the gazette on September 28, 2017.
Despite his official recognition and active engagement in his responsibilities, certain kingmakers allegedly sought to destool him, asserting that he had brought disgrace to the stool after stepping down as Board Chairman of the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) amidst allegations of financial misconduct.
With the backing of some divisional chiefs and “invisible forces,” Baffuor Akoto Osei was reportedly enstooled under the stool name Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng III in January 2025 and took control of Abene Palace with heavily armed personnel.
Nevertheless, several Kwahu chiefs and elders opposed the destoolment. Nana Kwaku Boateng, the Etena/Bretuo Abusuapanyin, contended that the Chieftaincy Act (2008), Act 759, mandates a lawful procedure for the removal of a chief, which was allegedly disregarded.
On May 5, 2025, Daasebre Akuamoah Agyepong II submitted a motion requesting an interlocutory injunction to prevent Baffuor Akoto Osei and six others from interfering with his duties as Omanhene of Kwahu.
The Judicial Committee of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs issued an injunction, prohibiting the respondents — which include divisional chiefs and palace officials — from interfering with Daasebre Akuamoah Agyepong II, until the final resolution of the substantive case. This ruling was announced on June 24, 2025, during a session held in Koforidua.
Additionally, the Committee prohibited the respondents from acknowledging or presenting Baffuor Akoto Osei as Kwahuhene or from executing any duties at Abene Palace. On November 17, 2025, law enforcement acted on the ruling, reinstating Daasebre Akuamoah Agyepong II to the palace.
Following his reinstatement, a degree of tranquillity has returned to the Kwahu Traditional Area. Daasebre Akuamoah Agyepong II is anticipated to recommence his customary duties and to persist in his efforts to attract investment for local development.
Since his installation, he has exhibited visionary and peaceful leadership, fulfilling roles as President of the Kwahu Traditional Council, Vice President of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs, and as a member of the Judicial and Research Committees of the National House of Chiefs. Furthermore, he has held leadership positions at ADB, Abosso Goldfields, and KPMG.
