The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, is anticipated to provide President John Dramani Mahama with an update regarding the recently concluded mediation process, which aims to establish enduring peace in the long-standing Bawku conflict.
President Mahama assigned the Asantehene the responsibility of spearheading the high-level peace initiative, which many had hoped would ultimately resolve the years of tension and instability in the region.
The meeting that took place on Monday, December 1, 2025, represented a significant advancement, as both the Kusaasi and Mamprusi factions convened together before the Asantehene for the first time since the commencement of the mediation.
Security measures surrounding the Manhyia Palace were stringent, with both groups undergoing thorough checks prior to being escorted into the palace auditorium.
According to sources, Otumfuo attentively listened to the presentations from both factions, encouraging restraint and assuring them of ongoing cooperation with the Presidency to resolve the protracted deadlock.
Outside the palace, supporters from the opposing groups erupted in celebration following the meeting. The festivities briefly escalated into a misunderstanding, necessitating prompt intervention from police and military personnel. Additional security forces were deployed to restore order.
Both factions are now awaiting formal communication from the Manhyia Palace regarding the subsequent steps in the peace process.
