Solomon Siaw Tetteh, identified as the suspected leader of a carjacking ring in the Krobo region, has been apprehended after being placed on the police’s wanted list due to multiple car theft incidents.
Tetteh narrowly avoided capture the previous week when law enforcement set a trap at his home in Nuaso, a suburb of Odumase, resulting in the arrest of three of his associates to aid in the ongoing investigation.
However, on Sunday, May 18, his fortune changed when intelligence gathered by investigators led to his capture at a different hideout in Nuaso, situated in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality of the Eastern Region.
Tetteh and his associates are accused of stealing vehicles from locations such as Nkurakan, Asesewa, Somanya, and Ada Magazine, with reports indicating that the stolen vehicles were dismantled and repurposed into coal pots.
While transporting the suspect to the Koforidua Divisional Police Headquarters, officers had to alter their route, diverting from the Nkurakan-Asaman road to the Koforidua Agavenya stretch after receiving information that a group of youths in Nkurakan had blocked the main Koforidua road, allegedly intending to lynch the suspect due to his involvement in local thefts.
At the police station, Tetteh was displayed alongside several vehicles and tricycles he was accused of stealing, but he denied all allegations, even in front of some victims present at the station. Authorities have stated that investigations are ongoing, and efforts are being made to apprehend additional individuals linked to the case.
The suspect is expected to be brought before the court once the investigations are completed.
