The United States has conveyed its sincere congratulations to John Dramani Mahama on his election as President of Ghana for the upcoming four-year term, which is set to commence on January 7, 2025.

The U.S. has lauded Ghana’s democratic framework, recognizing the nation’s capacity to conduct elections that are both peaceful and credible, thereby adhering to the principles of transparency and fairness.

In a statement released on December 10, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken commended the Electoral Commission of Ghana for its dedication to facilitating a free and transparent electoral process.

He highlighted Ghana’s reputation as a paragon of democracy and a symbol of stability within the African continent.

On December 9, the Electoral Commission officially announced Mahama as the victor of the 2024 presidential election.

He received 6,328,397 votes, which accounted for 56.55% of the valid votes cast, surpassing his nearest competitor, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who obtained 4,657,304 votes, or 41.61%.

The U.S. reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing its partnership with Ghana, advocating for democratic governance, and promoting shared values of peace and development.

The United States extends its congratulations to President-elect John Mahama on his successful election campaign, following the official results declared by Ghana’s Electoral Commission. We also congratulate Vice President-elect Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang on her historic achievement as Ghana’s first female vice president.

The United States commends the Electoral Commission, along with the hundreds of thousands of poll workers, civil society, and the nation’s security forces, for their roles in ensuring a peaceful and transparent electoral process. Additionally, we recognize Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia for his gracious acceptance of the election results.

We acknowledge the reports concerning isolated acts of violence, which have resulted in at least four confirmed fatalities. The United States expresses its heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and calls for a comprehensive investigation and accountability.

The United States takes pride in its longstanding partnership and friendship with the people and government of Ghana. We anticipate collaborating closely with President-elect Mahama to advance our historic relationship into the future.
