My selected officials will disclose their assets in 30 days – Mahama

The Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has reaffirmed his dedication to transparency and good governance. He has promised that all appointees in his administration will be required to declare their assets within 30 days of starting their roles.

During the NDC’s Governance Forum in Accra on Thursday, October 31, Mahama declared his commitment to accountability in public service.

Emphasizing the importance of restoring public trust, Mahama stated that within 30 days of assuming office, all members of his administration would be required to declare their assets.

Mahama admitted to the increasing lack of trust in public institutions, citing the most recent Afrobarometer survey that shows a decrease in confidence among Ghanaians in different government organizations.

To tackle this issue, he revealed intentions to revamp codes of conduct for public officials, emphasizing ethical leadership, professionalism, and responsiveness.

According to the recent report by Afrobarometer in Ghana, the Ghanaian public has lost trust in many of our institutions, revealing some troubling findings. As a whole, we need to take further action to restore that trust.

Our administration will thoroughly examine the codes of conduct for public officeholders to encourage ethical leadership, professionalism, and efficiency. The public sector must be accountable to the people, addressing their needs and displaying humility, modesty, and sacrifice while in office.

Mahama aims to establish a more accountable government and rebuild trust in public institutions by implementing these measures. He has pledged that if the NDC administration is elected, ethical governance and transparency will be top priorities.
