The Public Relations Officer for the Wildlife Division of the Forestry Commission, Ernestina Adumea Anie has called on Ghanaians to fully support Ghana’s goal of planting 10 million trees through the Green Ghana initiative.
The Public Relations Officer made the call in an interview with Vision1 FM to commemorate the 2023 Green Ghana Day on Friday 9th June 2023.
She appealed to individuals, fan clubs, religious institution, schools and traditional authorities to actively support the initiative since that was the only way to make Ghana green.
Ernestina Adumea announced that the Achimota forest has targeted to plant 10 million trees and was happy all the district offices have raised more seedlings, and expressed hope that more trees would be planted.
She said the activities of illegal mining and illegal chain saw operators had caused more damage to the environment and that more trees were required to be planted to save the vegetation cover.
Some Traditional leaders who spoke to our News Team pledged that their council would give the Commission the needed support and asked residents to take part in the Green Ghana Initiative.
Madam Ernestina Adumea commended the sector minister for the initiative and assured that the district offices were prepared to ensure the success of the project.
She announced that they had already engaged traditional and religious authorities, opinion leaders, schools and all stakeholders within the Greater Accra Region.
