The Ga East NADMO directorate has today demolished all container shops situated around electricity poles and under high tension lines in the Dome Kwabenya community, Haatso, Musuku and the Ga East Municipality at large.
The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) Director for Ga East Municipal Assembly, Seth Osei-Kissi gave the directive in an interview with Vision1 FM News team said that the danger of trading under such high-tension cables far outweigh the profits of any business transaction.He further explained that, due to the weight of the cables and fire outbreaks, the wires could snap or sag, thereby causing electrical shock.
He cautioned Ghanaians to desist from staying under transmission lines in the country. Seth Osei Kissi said persons who live under transmission lines risk losing their lives should a line fall at their ‘abode’. He added that their bodies will be burnt beyond recognition due to the thousands of volts carried in these transmission lines. He said the safest distance to the wires should be 5.5 meters or 11 steps away. It was necessitated by the springing up of small shops including pubs around the poles and persons blocking fire hydrants with container shops within the municipality.
According to Mr. Osei-Kissi, it is a dangerous act as raising structures around the electricity poles could lead to a fire outbreak causing destruction to lives and properties.
