The Police in Obomeng a suburb in Kwahu in the Eastern region has arrested some Ghanaian Lesbians who gathered to hold a wedding ceremony over the weekend.

The Police were, however, forced to grant the alleged lesbians bail due to the unavailability of a female cell at the station. Chief of Obomeng Nana Effah Opinamang III confirmed on Kasapa FM on Monday that they heard the rumours of the lesbian wedding and mobilised the security team to the location to arrest the participants.

22 out of the 30 guests at the lesbian wedding were arrested while the remaining fled the scene.

This arrest comes a few weeks after an office rented by the minority group at Ashongman was closed down by the National Security following public outrage over activities of the group.

During the opening of the group’s previous office, it explained that there was a need for Ghanaians to respect human rights hence setting up a safe space for members.

The January 31 event was attended by representatives from the Australian and Danish Embassies and other EU delegates.

Anti-gay rights advocates heavily criticized the move leading to president Akufo-Addo clarifying that same-sex relationships will not be legalised in the country.
