The University of Ghana (UG) has mandated that undergraduate students who achieved a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) below 1.00 upon completion of the 2025/2026 academic year must withdraw from their respective programmes of study.
Through a notice disseminated on Facebook on Thursday, October 22, the university’s Academic Affairs Directorate communicated that this directive aligns with Section 9.26 of the University Regulations for Junior Members (2017), which establishes the criteria for academic advancement.
Pursuant to this regulation, students are required to attain a minimum CGPA of 1.00 and fulfill the academic standards established by their respective schools or departments in order to advance to the subsequent level.
The Directorate emphasized that the university’s regulatory framework does not accommodate probationary status. Therefore, students whose CGPAs fall below 1.00 following the release of all grades for their enrolled courses will be obligated to withdraw from their programmes.
The announcement further indicated that affected students should verify their academic standing via the university’s Management Information System (MIS) Web and commence the withdrawal process through the Student and Staff Portal (STS).
“Affected students are required to review their CGPAs on the MIS Web, access the STS Portal (sts.ug.edu.gh/services) using their Student ID and PIN, and select ‘Withdrawal Request’ to commence the process”, the statement indicated.
The Directorate additionally noted that for certain programmes, the pertinent school or department would facilitate the withdrawal process on behalf of affected students.
Students requiring clarification regarding their academic standing or the withdrawal procedure have been directed to consult their respective College Academic Offices.
The university further communicated that its Careers and Counselling Directorate remains accessible to deliver assistance and guidance to students impacted by the directive.
