The Ghana High Commission located in Pretoria, South Africa, has acknowledged administrative errors in the documentation of 15 Ghanaian nationals who were evacuated from the country, following a comprehensive data review that identified concerns regarding the distribution of reintegration and transportation allowances to individuals whose recorded birth dates appeared to fall in future years.
In an official press statement issued on October 19, 2026, the High Commission attributed the errors to mistakes made during the manual entry of passport information by its personnel, which resulted in passport expiration dates being incorrectly documented as birth dates.
“The High Commission accepts responsibility for the minor administrative errors affecting only 15 individuals among the 1,964 Ghanaian nationals evacuated,” the statement indicated.
The High Commission further clarified that these errors did not compromise the verified identities of the evacuees, their participation in the evacuation initiative, or their entitlement to receive the sanctioned reintegration and transportation allowances.
The High Commission reaffirmed that all Ghanaian nationals evacuated from South Africa completed the mandatory identification procedures, data processing requirements, and departure protocols prior to departing the country.
Subsequently, the High Commission furnished corrected information for the 15 individuals in question to enable the updating of official records and guarantee that accurate information was disseminated to the public.
The Commission additionally clarified that the Jibril family, consisting of six members including one mother and five children, utilized Emergency Travel Certificates for their departure, as documented in a revised manifest.
“These particulars substantiate the identities of the individuals involved and the corresponding travel documentation,” the statement noted.
The High Commission expressed its appreciation for the media’s contribution to advancing transparency and institutional accountability, and encouraged members of the press to cross-reference any apparent inconsistencies with the pertinent official authorities.
The High Commission acknowledges the vital function that media institutions serve in fostering openness and governmental accountability. Consistent with this recognition, we advocate for substantiation through consultation with pertinent official channels whenever inconsistencies appear to exist within administrative documentation.
It reaffirmed its dedication to the evacuation initiative, expressing satisfaction with the dedication and contributions demonstrated in efforts to preserve the welfare of Ghanaian citizens and facilitate their secure return to their homeland.
The aforementioned declaration emerged following a comprehensive data examination that raised concerns regarding documentation associated with the government’s evacuation initiative in South Africa, as well as financial disbursements allocated to certain evacuees.
The High Commission affirmed its readiness to furnish supplementary information and appealed to both media organizations and the general public to depend upon authenticated and revised documentation.
