President John Dramani Mahama has declared that the Ministry of Roads and Highways and the Department of Urban Roads have commenced an assessment of the road infrastructure within the Airport enclave and the central business district to facilitate the accommodation of heightened vehicular traffic resulting from expanding developments in the locality.
He stated that this assessment has become imperative as new residential, commercial, hospitality, and other development projects are anticipated to intensify strain on the current road infrastructure and exacerbate traffic congestion.
During remarks delivered at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Sentuo Airport Garden City initiative on Tuesday, September 15, President Mahama indicated that the government is implementing measures to enhance road infrastructure surrounding the enclave.
“I wish to communicate that the Ministry of Roads and Highways and Urban Roads have initiated an examination of the road network in the airport enclave and the central business district. Given that developments of this magnitude emerge, traffic congestion will inevitably increase,” he stated.
President Mahama indicated that the assessment will evaluate interventions such as road expansion and the implementation of one-way traffic systems to optimize traffic circulation in the region.
“Consequently, we must expand the roads, establish one-way traffic arrangements, and enhance the road infrastructure,” he elaborated.
The President’s remarks were made in reference to the substantial growth of infrastructure development surrounding the airport vicinity, notably the $1.3 billion Sentuo Airport Garden City initiative.
The undertaking is projected to encompass luxury residential units, a 600-room hotel facility, a conference center with 2,500-seat capacity, medical facilities, a retail complex, and supplementary commercial and recreational amenities.
President Mahama emphasized that the government’s road development initiatives are designed to guarantee that infrastructure within the Airport enclave advances proportionally with the magnitude of private and public sector projects being executed in the region.
