The Special Task Force of the Northern Regional Police Command, known as Red Maria, has successfully intercepted 170 parcels of suspected narcotic substances, which are believed to be Indian hemp, during an operation guided by intelligence.
In a statement to the media, the Deputy Northern Regional Crime Officer, ASP Richard Ackumey, confirmed that the parcels were confiscated on Monday, July 27, 2026, as part of a focused operation conducted by the task force.
He emphasized the Command’s dedication to enhancing efforts aimed at combating drug trafficking and associated crimes within the region, assuring the public that actions against drug dealers will persist.
ASP Ackumey indicated that the suspects, Godwin Yamegi, aged 32, and Seth Amekuse, aged 33, will be brought before the court once investigations are finalized and the collected evidence has been meticulously examined.
He characterized the ongoing battle against drug abuse and trafficking in the region as promising, highlighting that the Police continue to receive robust support from traditional authorities, community leaders, and the public in addressing this issue.
ASP Ackumey also called on the public to keep providing timely and reliable information to aid the Police in their endeavors to combat drug-related offenses throughout the region.
