The government has called on the public to ignore a viral video that is spreading on social media, asserting that President John Dramani Mahama’s statements have been intentionally misrepresented for partisan gain.
Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Minister of State in Charge of Government Communications, provided this clarification in a Facebook post on Monday, July 27, following the video’s surge in popularity online.
Mr. Kwakye Ofosu stated that the President’s remarks in the video were taken out of context by what he referred to as “misguided elements.”
“Certain misguided individuals have attempted to twist the President’s words in this video to serve narrow partisan interests,” he remarked.
He clarified that President Mahama was discussing the allocation of GH¢150 million for post-flood mitigation efforts during a conversation with the National Security Coordinator.
“The President explicitly mentions the ‘release’ of GHS 150 million, which directly pertains to funding for post-flood mitigation efforts. This was the subject of his discussion with the National Security Coordinator and nothing beyond that,” Mr. Kwakye Ofosu emphasized.
He urged the public to avoid being misled by the claims that are circulating. “Disregard the malicious falsehoods!” he concluded.
