The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has called on the Ghana Police Service to accelerate their efforts in locating and apprehending a teacher from Bole Senior High School who is accused of engaging in inappropriate sexual conduct with a student in the Science Laboratory.
The Minister characterized the incident as both unacceptable and shameful, urging the police to ensure that the suspect is captured and prosecuted to deter similar actions by others. Reports suggest that the teacher has fled to nearby border towns.
During his address at the 2026 GALOP National School Awards on Thursday, July 9, Iddrisu said the Ministry is closely monitoring the police investigation and expects the matter to be addressed promptly and professionally.
“The incident in Bole is unacceptable and shameful. Therefore, Police, we are observing your progress with the investigation and your subsequent actions towards prosecution to deter such unacceptable behavior and conduct from a teacher,” he remarked.
The Education Minister also instructed the Ghana Education Service (GES) to take a firm stance against all forms of indiscipline in schools, whether it involves teachers or students.
He emphasized that any misconduct that does not meet acceptable professional and behavioral standards should incur appropriate penalties to maintain discipline and integrity within the education sector.
In the meantime, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has suspended the payment of the teacher’s salary due to his failure to report for duty following the incident.
