Ghanaian reggae-dancehall artist Shatta Wale has asserted that he can earn up to $1 million for performances in Ghana, emphasizing that the respect and support he receives in the country have contributed significantly to his financial stability over the years.
In an interview with Nigerian pop culture figure Adesope Olajide, commonly known as Adesope, the artist remarked that Ghana has been instrumental in his success and wealth.
“I have always viewed myself as an international star,” Shatta Wale stated. “If I were to tell you that I can earn $1 million in Ghana, you might wonder how that is possible. However, Ghana is a wonderful place where people appreciate the music culture.”
He explained that his achievements in Ghana extend beyond music streams and live performances, highlighting that the respect he garners from political figures, event organizers, and influential individuals significantly enhances his brand value.
“The level of respect I receive from political parties, ministers, and organizers is remarkable for me in Ghana,” he expressed. “Anyone who contacts me in Ghana treats me with the same respect they would afford to Jay-Z and Beyoncé.”
The dancehall artist elaborated that promoters in Ghana invest substantially in his shows, which motivates him and his team to provide high-quality performances in return.
“Everything I require for my shows is arranged meticulously,” he mentioned. “We invest a lot because the promoters also invest a lot, so we ensure we deliver what they deserve.”
Shatta Wale also revealed the reasons behind his frequent rejection of performance offers from Europe and the United Kingdom, stating that the fees proposed abroad do not align with the standards he enjoys in Ghana.
“When someone contacts me in London and offers £20,000 or £30,000, I advise them to allocate that money to another artist,” he remarked.
He further noted that the current economic climate in Europe and the West may also be impacting event organizers and their financial plans.
“To be frank, conditions are challenging in Europe and the West at the moment,” he acknowledged. “When circumstances improve, then you can come and call me.
The artist additionally expressed that he has upheld an extravagant lifestyle for more than ten years, primarily through income generated in Ghana. He likened his expenditure patterns to those of renowned international rap artists whom he respects, such as Lil Baby and Lil Durk.
