The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has reaffirmed the government’s dedication to purging recruitment within the security services of middlemen, bribery, and other unethical practices that have previously eroded public trust.
He made this statement following the denial of allegations that he has assumed control of the recruitment process.
The Minister clarified that he is fulfilling a supervisory role as part of his responsibilities concerning the agencies under the Ministry.
“As a Ministry, we oversee the agencies under our jurisdiction, and it is imperative that we ensure the recruitment process is smooth, transparent, and equitable without any interference,” he elaborated.
While addressing the media at Christ the King in Accra during a visit to the Ghana Immigration Service screening exercise, which is part of the ongoing recruitment initiative, the Minister emphasized that the centralized system being implemented for recruitment is robust and aims to minimize human interaction that could be compromised. This is why all security services have agreed to adopt this system.
“All personnel at the various recruitment centers are security officers and not employees of the Ministry, so how can it be claimed that the Ministry has taken over the recruitment?” he questioned.
Muntaka asserted that the responsibility for recruitment into the various security agencies lies with the respective services. Meanwhile, the Ministry’s role is confined to providing oversight to ensure strict compliance with established procedures and standards.
The Minister also revealed that a dedicated email address, recruitment@mint.gov.gh, has been set up for the public to report any instances of fraud, misconduct, or irregularities in the recruitment process for the security agencies. He explained that a specialized team at the Ministry has been assigned to receive and investigate all complaints submitted via email, as part of the efforts to guarantee free, fair, and credible recruitment processes across all agencies.
Muntaka praised the applicants for their discipline and patience, while also warning the public about individuals who assert they can sway recruitment results for a fee, labeling such assertions as fraudulent. He reiterated the government’s dedication to professionalism, fairness, transparency, and respect for human dignity within all security agencies.
