The National Election Security Taskforce convened a meeting with the Presidential Election Committee of the New Patriotic Party on Thursday, December 18, in preparation for the party’s upcoming presidential elections.
The NPP is scheduled to hold its elections on January 31, 2026, to select a presidential candidate in anticipation of the general elections in 2028.
The purpose of this engagement was to receive formal notification regarding the election and to gather essential information, such as the schedule, venues, and range of activities, to facilitate thorough security planning.
During the meeting, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, emphasized that the taskforce views such meetings as crucial for ensuring effective coordination and readiness for internal party elections.
He assured the Committee that the Ghana Police Service, in collaboration with other security agencies, would partner with the Electoral Commission and the NPP to implement suitable measures that would ensure a peaceful, orderly, and credible electoral process.
The IGP also reaffirmed the National Election Security Taskforce’s dedication to collaborating closely with all stakeholders to uphold law, order, and public safety before, during, and after the elections.
