President John Dramani Mahama has invited top civil society organisations to the Jubilee House for critical talks on illegal mining (galamsey).
The meeting is scheduled to take place on Friday, October 3, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. and is anticipated to bring together government representatives and civil society leaders to explore sustainable solutions to the environmental and social challenges posed by galamsey.
As stated in a letter from Dr. Callistus Mahama, Secretary to the President, this dialogue aims to leverage collective knowledge and viewpoints.
“This engagement seeks to utilize collective expertise and perspectives to address this national issue,” the letter indicated.
This engagement occurs at a moment when illegal mining continues to raise public alarm due to its detrimental effects on water bodies, agricultural lands, and forest reserves, prompting widespread demands for decisive measures.
