The Minister of Transport, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, has declared that the highly awaited Tema–Mpakadan railway line will begin full operations on 1st October 2025, following the successful completion of test runs.
During the Government Accountability Series held in Accra on Wednesday, September 17, the Minister confirmed that all technical evaluations of the line have been finalized, allowing for the commencement of commercial services.
“We conducted a test run on the Tema–Mpakadan rail line, which concluded yesterday [Tuesday],” Mr. Nikpe remarked.
“By 1st October, God willing, we will initiate the first operations from Tema to Mpakadan. We have completed the test runs, and everything is prepared for us to commence operations.”
The Minister also revealed that the required rolling stock has been prepared. “The two coaches have been repaired, which is why we were able to conduct the test runs,” he noted.
The Tema–Mpakadan rail line is part of the Eastern Railway Corridor project, which is anticipated to significantly improve transportation between the Greater Accra and Eastern Regions.
