Tema Central MP asserts that the defeat of the NPP in 2024 validates the demands for the removal of Ofori-Atta

The Member of Parliament for Tema Central, Yves Hanson-Nortey, has asserted that the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) defeat in the 2024 general elections validates the stance of the 94 Majority caucus members who advocated for the dismissal of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.

This group had previously called upon President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to remove the Finance Minister, citing economic mismanagement that they claimed had led to significant hardship throughout the nation.

In a statement to journalists in Parliament, Hanson-Nortey emphasized that the NPP’s considerable loss of parliamentary seats, along with its overall poor electoral performance, highlights the legitimacy of their call for a leadership change.

“This result illustrates the repercussions of disregarding the concerns expressed by us and numerous Ghanaians regarding the economic trajectory under Ofori-Atta’s administration,” Hanson-Nortey stated.

“I took part in the Ken Must Go protest because I believed that we were not managing the country effectively at that time. I was not alone in this belief. We formed a caucus of about 94 members, which later solidified into a collective decision.

“To indicate that at least 135 to 137 Members of Parliament shared similar sentiments or supported the notion that our governance was lacking. I believe the election results have confirmed our position.”
